Have you met Bill Farry?

Bill Farry
UAV and Spatial Data Lead | Chief Remote Pilot

1. How long have you been with Groundwork Plus?
I have been at Groundwork Plus for a little over a year. I have worked in aerial surveying since the late 1990s and during that time witnessed the development of surveying technology including the “Rise of the drones”. I have focused on mapping with drones for the past 7 years.

2. What is your role at Groundwork Plus, and what does it entail?
I work with my colleagues and their clients to solve problems using spatial data. If the right data does not already exist, we will work with them to plan and capture what is needed. I am also responsible for how we conduct all our drone flight operations. This includes safety, procedural and technical aspects of flying drones to ensure we provide the best service to our clients.

3. What are your areas of particular interest or your proudest accomplishment?
I really enjoy the great outdoors and road trips/adventures. In 2017, I took the family on an 8,000km round trip this included a week camping at Uluru. We got to visit many interesting places along the way including the Qantas Museum and Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach, staying in an underground Hotel in Coober Pedy and a day at the Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. We have plans to do more trips to the Outback.

4. What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?
Weekends are really busy with 3 kids. There is often play dates at the park, picnics or friends' birthday parties. If there is some time to relax, you can find me having a quiet beer and listening to the races in my mancave. Having 3 daughters, I can honestly say that this is a dream of mine and like winning the Lotto may come true one day.
